Throwback to our lecture performance in Budapest
This event was part of the Beyond Bare Life project, curated by Eszter Lázár and Edina Nagy from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, Budapest. This project explores care regimes—the intricate relationship between health policies, biopolitics, and state control over the body. By examining case studies from the socialist past of Eastern Europe and colonial histories, it unveils oppressive mechanisms enacted in the name of care, shaped by patriarchy and colonial supremacy.
In our lecture performance we explored historical examples of care regimes in colonial contexts alongside everyday personal and communal acts of resistance rooted in care. Through a decolonial and diasporic lens, we unpacked the legacies of colonial control over the body, sharing our personal and collective connections to care—not merely as an individual practice, but as a communal effort grounded in solidarity and resilience.
We had interesting exchanges about current situated challenges and the urgency of transnational solidarity. Let’s keep connecting across the globe.
