Amplifying community-centered voices through research, storytelling and art.
What does heritage mean in today’s world? Beyond Walls explores this question through historical research, storytelling and art.
Beyond Walls is a collective of independent researchers, curators, and visual storytellers. We initiate and foster collaborations that center community voices in a structural way—through exhibitions, community-led projects, international exchange, documentaries, research, artistic interventions, and advisory work.
Our aim is to build long-term partnerships and create lasting impact, both within and beyond institutional walls.

“Beyond Walls is a collective which, with all its initiatives, shows that the world is a collection of beautiful stories that need to be shared to bring the world closer together.”

Beyond Walls
Beyond Walls is an Amsterdam-based art and research collective. Through research, art, and storytelling, Beyond Walls engages with tangible and intangible heritage rooted in the (pre)colonial past. In collaboration with (diaspora) communities, the collective explores heritage as sites of resilience and communal knowledge. Through exhibitions, research, international exchange, documentaries, and artistic interventions, the collective amplifies community-centered voices that shape the meaning and future of shared heritage.
Beyond Walls regards objects not as static materials, but as living beings that embody stories, memories, and meaning. The collective is interested in the transformative power of heritage as a bridge for building relationships and networks of solidarity. By fostering international exchange, co-creation, and collaborative research with artists, cultural practitioners, and researchers, Beyond Walls works towards new narratives, reciprocal knowledge production, and a more equitable heritage practice.
